Machane Ivrit (Hebrew Immersion Camp) Overview

Machane Ivrit runs concurrently with our traditional camp sessions, and is designed specifically for incoming 4th – 5th grade Hebrew-speaking campers who want to experience camp life primarily in Hebrew – while remaining fully integrated into the broader camp community.

This track creates a natural, immersive Hebrew environment where language is used authentically throughout the day, allowing campers to connect, socialize, and build community in Hebrew.

What Makes Machane Ivrit Unique

Campers in Machane Ivrit are placed in cabins and activity groups led by Israeli and fluent Hebrew-speaking staff, ensuring Hebrew is the primary language used in daily camp life.

Hebrew is the language of connection during:

• Mealtimes
• Cabin life and routines
• Informal social time and peer interactions

All Machane Ivrit staff are native or fluent Hebrew speakers and engage campers conversationally, creating an environment where Hebrew is spoken comfortably, consistently, and joyfully.

Programming & Activities

Machane Ivrit campers participate fully in all core camp programming alongside their peers. In addition, they are prioritized for Hebrew-language and Israeli-culture chuggim, including:

• Tzofim chug (Israeli Scouts)
• Israeli dance
• Other Hebrew-forward cultural and experiential activities

These experiences allow campers to engage deeply with Israeli culture and community – without translating or stepping out of Hebrew.

Camp Program Highlights

Machane Ivrit campers enjoy the full Camp Solomon Schechter experience, including many of our most beloved programs:

• Challenge course, ropes course, and zipline that build confidence, teamwork, and resilience
• Daily time on our lake, including swimming, boating, and waterfront activities
• Our aquapark, a camper favorite filled with energy, laughter, and fun
• Full participation and leadership in our campwide Israel Day, where Machane Ivrit campers play a meaningful role in planning, leading, and celebrating Israeli culture with the entire camp community

These shared experiences ensure Machane Ivrit campers are fully immersed in the joy, adventure, and spirit of camp.

A Pathway Into the Broader Camp Community

Machane Ivrit offers a meaningful introduction to our camp community, with the hope that campers will fall in love with camp and choose to continue in future summers as part of the broader camp program, alongside their Hebrew-speaking peers.

While Machane Ivrit provides a Hebrew-forward environment, campers are not separated from the larger camp community. Campers interact easily with peers across camp, using English when needed, while maintaining Hebrew as their primary language within Machane Ivrit spaces.

Tuition

• The cost to attend a one-week session is $2,023.
• The cost to attend a two-week session is $3,839.
• International applicants receive a 20% discount.
