Hey everyone,

My name is Oliver Jacobson and I’m excited to be returning to the Schechter team for a 5th summer! I’m passionate about all things related to food and environment and I’m looking forward to spending another great summer at our beautiful camp. This year I studied at UBC and took a number of my courses in the Land and Food Systems department; I’m really excited to bring a lot of what I’ve learned to camp.

The past two summers I’ve had the privilege to oversee the the garden in my position as Rosh Ginah (Garden Specialist). This summer I’ll be stepping out of the garden and taking on a broader role as Rosh Teva (Nature Supervisor). I’m looking forward to developing some new and exciting activities to revamp the classic Schechter river trip. We still hope to continue some of the projects from last year, including camp-wide compositing, serving locally grown food, reducing our camp’s food waste and running cooking and nutrition chugs (activities) with the campers.

Spring is in the air, and summer is just around the corner.  I can’t wait for camp to start in just 60 short days! (Approximately the same length of time it takes to grow and harvest peas 🙂
