Insights from Summer Camp 2024

It’s Always Summer in Our Hearts!

Summer Camp 2024 was an unforgettable season filled with laughter, learning, and moments that will stay with us all year long. Even as we move through fall, the memories feel as fresh as yesterday. We’re so grateful for the heartfelt feedback we received from our camp families, celebrating the profound impact camp has had on their children.

One parent shared, “Camp is one of the most special places to us, and we can’t imagine a world without it. Both of us went there as kids, and we hope to send our future children there too…We love CSS!” Another family wrote, “Our children come home happier, more confident, and deeply connected to a vibrant Jewish community they know will be with them for life. We’re so grateful for this experience and for the wonderful staff who make it possible.”

This summer, we saw just how central camp is to helping our campers build independence and confidence. Programs like Talmud and Tea, where campers explored Jewish texts and traditions (some even for the very first time), opened new doors to their heritage and strengthened their sense of Jewish identity. Our new Sephardic cooking program gave campers a chance to get hands-on with Jewish cuisine, discovering flavors from around the world that connect us to our culture and history. And Shabbat services by Lake Stampfer, with the entire camp dressed in white, were magical moments of togetherness, where campers felt a unique sense of belonging and pride in our traditions.

For many, camp is a place to take risks in a safe and supportive environment, and it was amazing to see campers embracing challenges with courage, whether that was tackling a high ropes course for the first time, performing in the village sing program, or leading younger campers in activities. These experiences foster independence and build skills that campers carry with them into the world.

Another family shared, “Camp is where our kids are their truest selves – relaxed, joyful, and fully present in the moment. The friends they make, the values they live, and the way they feel seen and supported by their counselors and peers mean the world to us.”

As we reflect on this incredible summer, we’re already looking forward to welcoming everyone back for Summer Camp 2025. Registration is now open, and we can’t wait to see familiar faces and welcome new ones into our camp family. Thank you for being part of Camp Solomon Schechter, for sharing in our mission, and for making these summers so impactful and filled with Judaism and Joy.

We wish you a beautiful winter season, and we’re counting the days until we’re back together at camp!

L’Shalom,

Camp Solomon Schechter
