Caitlin Dane, Assistant Summer Director (Guidance)

How many years have you been involved with Schechter, and in what capacities?

I was a camper for six years, an Oded in 2005, and this will be my ninth year on staff.  After being a counselor for three years, I became involved in the Oded program as the Oded Mentor. The following two summers I spent working as the Oded director. This past summer I was the Assistant Summer Director and mostly worked as a part of the programming team- I will be holding the same position this year, with a greater focus on guidance.

What are you most excited for this summer?

I’m excited to spend the summer outdoors surrounded by people I love!

What is your favorite summer menu item?

Grilled cheese and tomato soup.

What is your favorite chug?

Band.

If you could go anywhere, where would it be and why?

Galapagos Islands- I want to see some giant turtles!

David Furman, Assistant Director (Programming)

How many years have you been involved with Schechter, and in what capacities?

I was a camper for one summer in 1994, and have been a staff member every summer since 2002 (13 years!).  I have had basically every job in camp, from counselor to Boys’ Side, river trips, 10th grade programming and kitchen staff, staff programming to oded director and now the Assistant Director.  I have been full time for the past four years.

What are you most excited for this summer?

Having people at camp!  It gets lonely in the winter.

What is your favorite summer menu item?

Ribs…or brisket…or BBQ…really, the meat du jour.

What is your favorite chug?

Hill Appreciation.  Or Waterfront Appreciation.  I could never decide.

If you could go anywhere, where would it be and why?

I would go on Neil DeGrass Tyson’s spaceship on Cosmos…that show is so cool…and reminds me of Ms. Frizzle and the Magic School Bus.

Josh Niehaus, Assistant Summer Director (Judaics)

How many years have you been involved with Schechter, and in what capacities?

20… Yes, I’m the old guy. I was a Bet and Gimmel camper, Oded, Counselor, Music Specialist, Boys’ Side, Judaics Director, Assistant Summer Director, Social Media Manager, Online Marketing Director.

What are you most excited for this summer?

That feeling when you are air drying on the dock after a dip in the lake as the campers start to congregate on the hill before dinner; the air is warm, filled with laughter, and smells of what will hopefully be a red plate meal!

What is your favorite summer menu item?

Ribs!!!!!

What is your favorite chug?

Shul of Rock!

If you could go anywhere, where would it be and why?

Greenland. Truthfully I want to go most places, but I think Greenland is going to be one of the harder ones to get to. So the more times I say it, the more pressure I will feel to follow through with it.
