Bissel (bisl) – Noun: A little bit.
E.g. “I only speak a bissel of Yiddish.”
Now that we’ve finished our Yiddish lesson for the day, we are excited to announce that A Bissel of Schechter is finally back, and registration is now open!
A Bissel of Schechter is a two-night Shabbaton for rising 1st-5th graders. Prospective and returning campers are invited to come down to camp to meet our amazing camp staff, play gaga, create art projects, sample a variety of sports activities, braid challah, celebrate Shabbat, eat in our dining hall, sleep in our comfortable cabins, and sing and dance the night away! A Bissel of Schechter packs the magic of camp into two days!
Don’t feel like driving to camp on Friday afternoon? No problem! Buses will be leaving from the Seattle and Portland areas on Friday afternoon, with plenty of time to ensure that campers arrive at CSS before the start of Shabbat. Parents will be invited down to camp on Sunday to tour the facility and pick up their campers. Note: there will not be a bus return option.
Shabbat At Bissel
Shabbat is the most joyous time of the week at CSS. From the moment we parade down to the amphitheater for our Kabbalat Shabbat (welcoming of Sabbath) service, dressed in our “Shabbos whites,” singing and dancing as we go, there is a palpable sense of community and joy.
Chef Frank has put together an extra special menu for Bissel. Campers can look forward to homemade matzah ball soup, an ice cream sundae bar, pancakes, s’mores, and more!
Sunday Open House
Bring an appetite and good walking shoes to camp on Sunday! Chef Frank will be serving up a delicious brunch for families, and camp staff will be providing tours around camp all morning.
