Summer Staff

The heart of Camp Solomon Schechter is our dedicated and caring staff. Our staff members are carefully selected for their experience, skills, and sensitivity with children.  Our counselors come from all over the United States, Canada and Israel.  Many of our staff have spent their camper summers at Schechter, creating a link to years past and continuing age-old traditions.  Senior counselors have completed at least a year of college.  All of our staff are required to participate in an orientation and training program prior to the campers’ arrival.  A low camper-to-staff ratio ensures that each camper receives personal attention and guidance for the duration of their camp experience.  Our staff serve as both counselors and activity specialists.

Many of our wonderful regional Rabbis, Cantors, and educators make annual appearances at camp over the summer, adding their insight and experience to the program.  Some of our staff receive additional training and stipends to bring exciting new Jewish programming to camp. These staff members are called Cornerstone Fellows. The Cornerstone Fellowship is a program of the Foundation for Jewish Camp made possible by the generosity of the AVI CHAI Foundation.

Do you want to join the Schechter team?

Are you ready for the summer of your life? The Schechter staff is a team of about 50 responsible men and women, dedicated to making a difference in the lives of youngsters. While working at a summer camp is hard work - with long hours and very little privacy - the rewards are huge: living in nature, the rewards of working with kids, and the great friends that will last a lifetime.

We have extremely high standards for our summer staff, because we know they are an integral part of the campers’ experience at Schechter.

After a summer working at Schechter, staff will have gained invaluable skills as counselors; they can program, teach, manage, problem-solve, and work collaboratively with co-workers.
