Shalom Horim (Parents)!
This week the fun never ended! Chanichim (campers) have enjoyed Israel Day, the Israel Scout Caravan performance, Eilat Casino night, camping trips, alternative services, as well as all of their regular daily chuggim (activities). We also hadTisha b'Av this week, which was meaningful and an opportunity to have deeper conversations. The weather is beautiful, and the chanichim are enjoying the waterfront. No need for heaters in the lake these days!
Our teva (nature) and Peulat Sababa (Jewish education) programs have gotten more interesting this year! We aspire to incorporate Jewish values, Jewish teachings, and the Hebrew language into all of camp - whether it's by referring to the lake in Hebrew as the "agam" or by incorporating the values of "shalom bayit" (peace in the home - and by extension, the camp bunk) into our bunk activities. This week all of thechanichim went on a camping trip to Dash Point State Park in Federal Way, Washington. In our outdoor nature program, chanichim learn about the Jewish value of being "shomrei adamah" - keepers of the earth. The chanichim learn that we have to take care of the world, just as it has taken care of us. Chanichim have fun in nature at camp while they learn about Judaism! And, as with much good informal education, they are often having so much fun that they do not even realize how much they are learning.
We are excited for Shabbat and all of the hanging out and good food. Wishing you all a wonderful and relaxing Shabbat!
