Executive Director - Sam Perlin

Pictured here with his wife Sharon and youngest daughter Maital, Sam is going into his fourth summer at Schechter! Sam grew up in the Maryland suburbs of Washington DC where he attended a conservative synagogue, had a strong Jewish family life and attended the Charles E. Smith Jewish day school from 7th to 12th grade. While at JDS, Sam convinced his parents to keep kosher and observe Shabbat. During the summers, Sam went to two different Jewish sports camps and worked at Habonim movement sleep away camp called Moshava. The camps were located in the mountains in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and in Maryland. Summer camp was a life changing experience for Sam.

Thirteen years ago, Sam, his wife Sharon and their two small children moved to Seattle from Baltimore. Sam took the position at Seattle Academy (a 6-12th grade independent school in downtown Seattle) as Athletic Director and head boys varsity basketball coach. For ten years Sam grew the athletic program, built an athletic center, and is very much a part of the recent success of Seattle Academy. In 2004, Sharon gave birth to their third child, Maital. The Perlin’s attend Congregation Beth Shalom, where they are very active. Sam regularly leads morning prayers and Shabbat services. Sam reads Torah, serves on the religious practices and youth commission committees, and runs numerous children’s programs on holidays. Sam also founded and ran Camp Maccabiah, a Jewish sports camp for elementary aged children in Seattle’s North end. Sam has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Maryland in Physical Education, Recreation and Health and a Master Degree from Western Maryland College in Administration.

Assistant Director - Dave Furman

Dave Furman, or “Furman” as campers, staff and alumni know him, is the quintessential camp “lifer”. After graduating from Newport High School in Bellevue, WA in 2002, Furman started working at Schechter as a Senior Counselor… and he’s been here ever since! He worked for nine straight summers on summer staff, holding almost every position in camp (from counselor to kitchen staff!). He graduated from Binghamton University in Binghamton, NY in 2007 with a B.A. in Judaic Studies and History, and has spent the last three years working for Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life, first at Miami University in Ohio and most recently at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA. Working at Camp full time is a dream for him, and he is incredibly excited to bring his knowledge and passion for camp and Jewish life to the Schechter team, and Furman truly believes that a summer at camp can change a person’s life forever and for the better; what a blessing to be able to be a small part of it!

Furman loves getting back in touch with old campers, staff and alumni from his time at camp and before, so feel free to be in touch!

Registrar & Business Manager - Carolyn D'Albora

Carolyn came to CSS the long way. A practicing attorney for 10 years, Carolyn quit the active pratice of law the day her first child was born. For the next 15 years, she did legal research, worked as an American Sign Langage Interpreter at several local community colleges, and together with her husband Mike, raised their two children. Carolyn grew up on the South Side of Chiago and attended Camp Chi in Wisconsin, where she formed her love for camp and her belief in its importance for Jewish children.

Jef Nobbe - Development Director

Jef Nobbe comes to Camp with over 20 years of non-profit experience. While working on his BS in Math & Computer Education at Purdue University, he spent four summers working at the Flatrock River YMCA Camp in southern Indiana. He then continued his studies at Purdue receiving a Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling. Upon graduation, he moved to Seattle and worked directly with street-involved youth at YouthCare for five years before moving into fundraising and volunteer management. In 2001, he left YouthCare to become the Development Director of the Washington Poison Center, where he started the Mr. Yuk Fundraising Luncheon, increased federal funding to the center tenfold and worked diligently to increase public awareness of Mr. Yuk, the Poison Center services and the need for funding. In 2008, Jef was provided the opportunity to join the staff of Creative Activities/VSA Washington as their Associate Director. Creative Activities/VSA Washington provided art opportunities to people with disabilities acros Washington State until it closed its doors in the spring of this year due to the economic downturn.

Jef is excited to join the Camp Solomon Schechter team. He has seen, first hand, the transformative power of camp and how those experiences and memories positively impact campers and counselors alike years into the future. "I'll never forget how it was okay to sing off key at the top of your lungs at a campfire with everyone merrily joining in simply because you were trying your best or witnessing how engaged a camper would become when given some words of encouragement."

Head Chef - Crosby Beckman

Crosby grew up in the Olympia area before attending college at Willamette University in Salem, OR. After a few semesters he took time off to explore his culinary interests and wound up at CSS. One of his chief contributions has been his traditional challah baked fresh every Friday.

He also coaches high school soccer, and has recently renewed his studies in mathematics at Saint Martins University.

Facilities Manager - Frank Savage

Frank is entering his thirteenth season with Camp Solomon Schechter. Born and raised in Washington, Frank lived in New York for twenty years and moved to Seattle in 1988. He and his wife Penny enjoy a quieter life in the Olympia area since moving to camp.

Spending time with family is very important to Frank. He enjoys spending time with his 11-year old grandson, who lives nearby, and his 4-year old granddaughter, who lives in Renton. Special vacations are spent with his two daughters and their families in New York. Attending sporting events and participating in Fantasy Football are activities he shares with his son in Renton.

Frank enjoys creating new improvements to the camp and getting to work outside in the beautiful setting! It's been a special part of his job renewing friendships with campers and summer staff each year.

Pictured with Frank are his grandson Spencer and granddaughter Lily.
