Carolyn D’Albora - Registrar & Business Manager

After a ten-week temporary trial-by-fire last spring, Carolyn has rejoined the staff as our registrar. Those of you who dealt with her may remember her good nature and quirky sense of humor, as well as her friendliness and efficiency. Nothing in Carolyn's background prepared her for this job, other than her undying love for the overnight camp she went to while growing up in Chicago.

Cheryl Puterman - Development Associate

Cheryl Puterman moved to Issaquah in 2007 together with her husband Jeff, daughters Shira and Dalia and spunky little dog named Farfel. Cheryl grew up attending Jewish overnight camps in Eastern Canada as both camper and staff. Cheryl earned her Bachelor’s degree in Jewish Studies from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. She worked for 7 years teaching in Jewish supplementary schools then started a career in sales and marketing.

After relocating to the Pacific Northwest, Cheryl worked as Program Coordinator and Manager of Logistics with Camp Young Judaea West. Cheryl is a firm believer in the value of Jewish camp experience and enjoys working with a terrific team of camp staff and devoted board members!

Summer 2010 Head Staff

Assistant Summer Director - Jeremy Toren

Jeremy Toren was raised in many fine cities all over North America and abroad, including White Plains, Cleveland, Chicago, and Jerusalem, before settling in Seattle when he was 16. He attended Brandeis University, where he graduated with a B.A. in music and learned that he was passionate about education. After college, he returned to Seattle, where he has spent most of the last few years teaching at Seattle Jewish Community School.

When Jeremy is not positively influencing young minds, you can generally find him playing all kinds of sports, playing the piano, singing in a choir, complaining about the weather, or correcting people's grammar. He is thrilled to begin his second summer at Camp Solomon Schechter, and his first as Assistant Summer Director.

Girls Side Director - Henya Kamesar

This will be Henya's eleventh consecutive year at Camp Solomon Schechter. She was first a camper, then oded and staff member and now she will be on head staff. She grew up in Eugene and attends school there at the University of Oregon.

Henya has worked with kids of all ages and has always been involved in leadership programs both Jewish and secular. Above all, she loves camp and is extremely excited to be working closely with the campers and staff this summer. She plans to make it a rewarding and enjoyable experience for all who are involved. Henya can't wait to share her passion for Schechter with everyone at camp this summer!

Boys Side Director - Gabe Cahn

I'm returning to Schechter this year for my 8th summer. I was raised in Redmond, WA and attended Northwest Yeshiva High School on Mercer Island. I am currently studying politics and psychology at Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA. At Whitman, I am involved with the Hillel-Shalom, I play on the rugby team, and am a co-host of a sports talk radio show.

Next year I plan on studying Middle Eastern politics at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. In my free time, I enjoy playing basketball and being outside.

Judaic Director - David Waldbaum

David Waldbaum grew up in the Seattle area. He has fond memories of his experience as a camper and counselor in Jewish summer camps on the West Coast. David is thrilled about working at Camp this summer and infusing the experience with quality learning and personal meaning. He is excited about helping young people connect to Judaism in nature with Ruach!

David attended Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon where he received a Bachelor of the Arts degree with a focus in Sociology-Anthropology and Latin American Studies. Having spent some time in Israel as a young man, first when he was 13, and then for a much longer stay when he was 17, he decided to follow his dreams and return to Israel to reconnect with his Jewish roots on his own after college. After a year of exploring the world of Torah study lishma (for its own sake) and life in Jerusalem, he decided to extend his stay in Israel for two more years to pursue a Masters degree in Jewish Education through the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies and Hebrew College of Boston. Upon completing his studies, David returned to the Seattle area to share his passion for Torah, Hebrew, Jewish history, and spirituality with others. He loves hiking and music.

Teva Director - Jacob Haas

My name is Jacob Haas. I have been at CSS as a camper, an oded and a staff member. This will be my third summer on staff at camp. Last summer I was not at camp because I was in Israel competing in the 18th World Maccabiah Games. I am thrilled to be back at camp this summer, especially with the addition of the brand new high ropes course.

I graduated from The College of Idaho, with a degree in political economy, in 2007. Since then I have been working with Jewish youth in Vancouver, BC.

I have a passion for the environment and being outside. Through my role at camp, Teva director, it enables me to share this passion with the campers and spend most of the summer outside. I also have run competitively at the high school, collegiate and post-collegiate levels.

In the very near future I plan to start a degree in education and begin teaching at the high school level.
